Mounjaro dosing schedule

Mounjaro is taken once a week. Aberdeen Weight Loss Clinic experts suggest following a schedule to gradually increase the dosage to help you get the most from your treatment.

Weeks 1–4

Start with a dose of 2.5mg once a week. This initial dose is designed to help your body gradually adjust to the medication.

Weeks 5–8

Increase the dose to 5mg, taken once weekly. This increase helps to enhance the medication’s efficacy while monitoring your tolerance.

Weeks 9–12

Increase the dose again to 7.5mg once weekly. This step depends on how well you’ve tolerated the previous doses.

Weeks 13-16

Increase the dose to 10mg once weekly. This dose is part of the standard progression aiming for optimal weight loss.

Weeks 17+

Depending on your doctor’s advice and how well you’ve tolerated the 10mg dose, you may increase to a maximum of 15mg once weekly.
This structured dosing schedule helps to minimise side effects and allows your body to adapt to each new dose level gradually. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions and discuss any concerns with them to ensure the best outcomes from your treatment plan. Not all patients will need to reach the highest dose. Your dose is tailored based on your response and how you tolerate the medication. It may be that you need to increase the dose more slowly than every 4 weeks, but you must not increase the dose more quickly than that.

Supporting your mental health

Obesity, being overweight mental health problems, such as depression and eating disorders, can negatively affect each other, making it harder to manage your weight. It’s important to recognise the link between your mental health and your weight so you can seek help if you need it.

Talking therapies

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be effective for tackling the psychological challenges associated with eating disorders and obesity. It focuses on changing the way you think and behave, helping to break the cycle of negative thoughts and actions that can impact eating habits and body image.

To find a CBT therapist via the NHS, you can refer yourself or speak to your GP, who can refer you to talking therapies in Aberdeen.

Why it’s important

Keeping active

Exercise doesn’t just burn calories. By triggering the release of endorphins, the body’s natural mood enhancers, exercise has been shown to help combat depression and anxiety.

There’s plenty of ways to stay active in Aberdeen, from local gyms and fitness classes to parks and recreational facilities.
